* All Souls’ Night *
Jennifer Armintrout’s All Souls’ Night
What a great resolution to this four part series of a tale!!!! This has to be the best series I have ever read! All the characters were given their dues, the roller coaster relationships were molded and mended, and I became so involved with the workings of each character and there with them. The blood tie plays such a major part and is so amazing the way characters with this gift (or curse) can communicate on a different level with no words but only thoughts. It turns out to be a very normal idea as I read through all four books. I could not put this book down, it traveled with me EvErYwHeRe (!) I went and every chance I got (no matter if it was only a few minutes) I read it! Read on my way to school, my breaks at work, before bed, while i worked out…yadda yadda!
I can’t believe it’s all over
… But! I must say I now have a new FavoritE author! Her writing is so much, yet so simple at the same time. It’s satirical, romantic, and very believable (given the subject matter of vampires and werewolves). The concept of Italian werewolves made me laugh out loud. The on again, off again relationship between Carrie and Nathan made me clench my fists and warmed my heart. And the living quarters, the characters’ feeling/emotions, and occurrences of the characters seemed as if it really could come true. Ah!mazzing! … The things done for love; the self sacrifice is beautiful and priceless.
My only hope: is that she decides to turn her series into a movie. I’d be first in line to see it!!! More realistically, I plan to own the whole series so I can re-read it over again! (5 stars!)
Excerpts:
Pg. 38- ‘He struck the word from his mental vocabulary again as she had taught him. Vampire-werewolf hybrid. ‘
Pg. 53- ‘… never again hear the way his soft, cultured accent turned my name into a sinful prayer against my ear. Never feel his body pressed to mine. … I wanted to sit and dream of a future with him without thinking it was twisted. I wanted to lie in his arms and feel safe, not as though I should be on guard. ‘
Pg. 72- ‘As disgusting as it sounds, humans smell like food, and they were definitely food. ‘
Pg. 111- ‘Biting had seemed so…bad. So dirty in the past. But it hadn’t this time. It had been erotic as hell. ‘
Pg. 253- ‘He had declined anything in the Mary Kay department.’
Pg. 314- ‘It makes me sick to think that one day, I’m supposed to be holding some stranger the way I hold you. Touching her, telling her I love her. It’s not possible.’
* Ashes To Ashes *
Jennifer Armintrout’s Ashes to Ashes.
One Word:: AMAZING!
I just finished reading this and my head is still spinning with trying to gather all I just read! The rug has been torn up underneath me!!!
A character gets possessed in a blink of an eye with no warning and turns to normal with almost maximal damage done, drinking blood reveals the inner workings and shows the truth of the past, relationships are patched; some hatched up (!), the most unlikely assassin is presented with unforeseen betrayal told of which is conveniently wrapped in a young, sweet packaging, two guys fighting over one women — not all it’s cracked up to be…especially when both of them have access to your every thought–, and juicy details are eluded to which makes the story that much better. A lot of what happened in the last couple of books is completely explained and put into light in this third placement. And, low and behold, Carrie never seems to learn, but keeps falling into the same mistakes over and over again, this time though it’s not so easily forgiven…then! she really does it when she falls victim to the deepest, darkest villain thought up.
Despite all the questions unraveled and history explained, I can’t imagine what the last book will hold! I finished this one thinking: “now what???”
Excerpts:
Pg. 18- ‘Feeling fat, ugly and petrified of falling to my doom, I closed my eyes and sighed.’
Pg. 21- ‘If I hadn’t been drunk, it would have sounded as messed up as it really was. Instead, I looked up at him as though he’d cured cancer and world hunger simultaneously.’
Pg. 25- ‘…his soft Scottish accent curling around my heart like a possessive hand.’
Pg. 115- ‘Four months ago, I would have stopped to analyze that action. Now, consumption of blood was background noise.’
Pg. 208- ‘I kissed his forehead and stroke his hair, feeling nothing but absolute, unconditional love for him. … “That’s how I feel about you, you know.” ‘
* Possession *
Jennifer Armintrout’s Possession
I couldn’t wait and just had to rush out and get the next book in J. Armintrout’s series. Book two. It was very much worth it! The book starts out by taking its reader by storm with a rapid change and disappearance of a sire who is possessed by the something worse that a demon…the SOUL EATER! The story continues on for Carrie’s quest to find him and to solve the mystery of why this all happened and where he is (?!)
A surprise too because, lo and behold, the evil Cyrus shows a softer, gentler (caring?!) side for a ‘mousy’ lady who is sent to keep him alive. A bond and alliance is formed between them…amazing but true and completely against his Vampire Nature…duh! cuz now he’s human. The chemistry exhibited is very exquisite and makes the reader (me!) grow a softer side and acceptance for this once evil vampire.
Just when I didn’t think book two count amount nearly as much as book one, I was disproved!
And even Carrie has made a change. At first she was detested by the smell of blood but now her mouth salivates at the sight of veins since she now knows what lies beneath them. “…human blood is amazing. Thick and warm and rich with a coppery bite, it’s like no food a human could experience.”
The character transformation is amazing and pulled me in deeper to the story line and I’m hooked in tight!
Now…I’m on the hunt for book three!
Excerpts:
Pg. 26- ‘The vampire Cyrus would have taken his pleasure and her blood in one night, and she wouldn’t have lived to see the dawn.’
Pg. 68- ‘…she’s got telekinesis…she can kill you, with her mind.’
Pg. 70- ‘I’ll bet you hiked that sundress up for your fair share of please-love-me fucks.’
Pg. 90- ‘She requires much more blood to support her tissues. Total immersion allows her to draw the blood in through her lungs and pores as well as her digestive system. The blood cycles through purifying and oxygenating filters continually…’
Pg. 110- ‘As a human, he could be kind. He found he rather liked being kind.’
Pg. 254- ‘And that’s when I knew. … I realized the only demon possessing Nathan was his own. I just didn’t know how to save him from it.’
Pg. 295- ‘Nathan’s blood had always smelled like home to me.’
