* Red *
Erica Spindler’s Red
Becky Lynn is from the white trash tracks of Bend, Mississippi & Jack resides in the high life of- the glamor of Hollywood. Through a series of by-chance events their two paths cross — and change both of them forever; body and mind.
…so powerful with emotions of heartache, helplessness, bitter cold rage, and an outstanding sense to want to reach out and wash away all the hurt and unclean regret. This book brought forth emotions that only well-written fiction can, but exuded an amazingly fierce plot.
* ‘She was Red. Undeniable, unbeatable.’ *
Excerpts:
Pg. 21- ‘No sense reaching for a star, you’re never going to catch one. …even if you did manage to, you’d only burn your fingers.’
Pg. 47- ‘She’d wanted to die, and they’d just been having a little fun.’
Pg. 109- ‘She smelled like flowers and felt like heaven. …his heart thundering in his chest, the pulse in his head.’
Pg. 213- ‘He was seducing her, making lover to her, without even touching her.’
Pg. 353- ‘The woman in the photos was beautiful.’
* Breakneck *
Erica Spindler’s Breakneck
Mhmmm the makings of perfect and suspenseful mystery are all found in Splinder’s newest book! The killer is cunning, ruthless, hapless, and always one step ahead of justice. The detectives do everything in their power to piece together the puzzle of clues and dead bodies they’re given. While the rest of the crowd makes for a heartfelt plot and rounded ending!
I must add that the story lapsed a bit about 3/4 of the way through with a bit of a rest stop but then the story gained pulse-racing momentum (and might I add sleep deprivation until I reached the final page…) through the remaining chapters. The time was counting down and it seemed like I was right along with the main character trying to keep up while she fought for justice!
So! Once again Spindler amazed me and took me for a helluva ride, which left me speechless and unable to lull off to sleep after finishing the book!
Now that’s great writing!
Excerpts:
Pg. 44-’Maybe you’re better off. He wasn’t that nice of a guy.’
Pg. 95-’…the longing that filled her was so great she couldn’t breathe.’
Pg. 175-’I've busted a lot of characters over the years, but never Barbie.’
Pg. 276- ‘Username and password. Keys to the kingdom.’
Pg. 328-’As if he could know anything about love. Loving someone meant you had to have a heart.’
* Shocking Pink *
Erica Spindler’s Shocking Pink
Way back when, Raven, Julie, and Andie were the bestest of friends, better yet! The three musketeers!! They united together with the vow of forever friendship and to always be there for each other. One night they discover some dirty and uncomfortable business going on in their quaint little town. Much to their naive nature and their sense of curiosity proves to outweigh their better judgment of safety and intuitiveness. An act of innocence soon spirals into a scene of regret, ‘what ifs’, and a horrid present turns of events that prove to break apart their alliance. Both as children and into adults.
All the twists and turn of events transformed this book into a gem of a read! I raced to the end and was ever-surprised with the way things ended. Great stuff!
Excerpts:
Pg. 74- ‘She was stripping…being forced to.’
Pg. 77- ‘..the woman was nothing and he was everything. Like she was a slave and he was her master.’
Pg. 81- ‘She wanted to learn his secrets.’
Pg. 256- ‘The directness of his gaze challenged somehow…He made her feel totally exposed.’
Pg. 385- ‘his dark eyebrows, sharp nose and cheekbones became more prominent, making him look half man, half bird of prey. Or like the devil. ‘
Pg. 443- ‘They hide their true selves to protect themselves or others they love. They have agendas.Secrets that have nothing to do with the appearance of things. ‘
* Only Child *
Jack Ketchum’s Only Child
This is not only a work of fiction but based upon actual events …
It’s the usual life goings of boy meets girl…girl falls for boy…they get married and then the twist comes to the surface when those around you are not who you thought them to be.
Arthur Danse is a troubled young boy who quickly learns the art of deception and hiding from people and his actions at a young age and then hones the skill of manipulation all too easily.
Lydia becomes wise to his deviance a bit too late with their son, and only child, Robert…but by the time she figures out what he’s done it’s too far gone from hope…the only way she can save her son and herself is to give alot of herself, her dignity, and her sanity.
This is not for the faint of heart and will tug at your heart strings, anger you to no ends, and bring out a revengeful side. A read that’s hard to put down but even harder to read given it’s history.
Excerpts:
Pg. 34- ‘He didn’t know a lot of things about her. Nobody did.’
Pg. 73- ‘He wondered if she knew that her life had already changed a bit.’
Pg. 78- ‘It all changed when she had her baby. Their son Robert.’
Pg. 103- ‘When you’re not safe. You’re never safe. Not from some people.’
Pg. 150- ‘The room had come unglued from the universe. ‘
Pg. 303-’I don’t love him. I Hate him.’
